Time passed slow and then quite fast
Thoughts of you just seem to last
My mind keeps lingering in the past
Hearing songs that you played
Wishing that I could have stayed

Wishing I could be your friend
Wondering how your life has been
Then one day we meet again
Seeing you a nice surprise
Warmed my heart when we met eyes
Just hellos and no goodbyes

Picking up where we left off
Your voice so sweet and smile soft
Your laughter fresh like lemonade
Mends my soul when it was frayed

Seeing you just being you
All the simple things you do
It feels so good and easy too
Best of times just me and you

Everything you mean to me
The only place I want to be
The only one I want to see
Your warm embrace is all I miss
My mind adrift when we kiss

You fill my heart every day
Hoping now you're here to stay
Losing you just like before

Memories (the shelf)

I’d write you a song, if I had the space
You built me a shelf, my own special place
Crafted with care, I liked having you there
Our relationship grew, so strong, so steady
So busy with life, my song wasn’t ready
All our memories, filling my shelf with these
Best of our times, replaced my piano keys

Like links in a chain, connected together
You and me always to be, or so I believed
Blind to the pain, I’d feel when you leave
Thought I’d be fine, the day you departed
But here without you, I feel broken hearted
Miss hearing your voice, seeing your smile

Your pickup truck, that dirt road for miles
An image of you, I will always hold true
But those days gone, it’s no longer us two
Back in my room, there’s a lingering gloom
The pictures are gone, the memories fade
covered in dust, my piano keys stayed

Since you've been gone, I'm here by myself
Alone in my room, with a big empty shelf
As time passes on, the pain’s mostly gone
I dust off the keys, and work on my song
It took me so long, I struggled to start
From me to you, it’s a piece of my heart

True love of mine, where’d we go wrong
Now worn by time, the notes of my song
Up on the shelf, that’s still holding strong
You built it that day, standing right here
Now it’s just me, and now it seems clear
This is our song, that you’ll never hear

I’d give all I could, to be back again
You here with me, true friends to the end

Our wedding dance, now a lifetime away
Together forever, It’s no longer true
How’d we go wrong, why are we through

Scenes of our life, gone from the shelf
Here without you, I sing by myself
Until the day when we meet again

I’m writing this for you, not because I’m lonely or bored, to the contrary I’ve been quite busy feeling content and fulfilled. Then out of nowhere you appeared, like a bolt of lightning in the night sky, lighting up a part of me I didn’t know existed.

You are a true phenomenon of nature, mysteriously complex, intriguingly beautiful, living life the right way, the real way, with unbridled passion, limitless wonder, honesty, transparency, and true sincerity.

Your flaws and your imperfections are not mistakes to regret or problems to be solved, they are shining reflections of your strong and captivating spirit, your raw and true nature. Like the ocean, sky, sun, moon, stars, and the clouds, they are your own vibrant colors, intricate textures, and alluring radiance.

The patterns of your thoughts, your voice, your smile, your joy, your laughter and your sorrow are the deeply rich, sweet notes, and stirring echoes of your uniquely particular song, powerfully captivating in their fleeting moments, the way flames dance into the darkness, clouds form and dissolve, and light shimmers on ever changing ripples of water.
